Mrs Clarke's homework for 30th October

Hope you all have a great half term and come back refreshed and ready to work HARD. Here's a couple of things for you to do in the holidays.
1. Try this game. Let me know how you got on. Choose mixed problems.
2. Write a report about one aspect of the second world war. Your report must be at least 150 words long. You can include pictures/diagrams. Either post it on the blog or write/type it out and bring it into school. Make sure you're proud of your work. If you go to this site it might help you find information for your report. Remember it must be in your own words.

Well done so far. I'm glad you liked it Joe. Keep trying with the 8 and 6 times table Ben - I'm sure you'll be able to master it. Tom, don't let the 8's beat you.

The Blitz

The Blitz started at 4:56pm on 7 September 1940. The German planes flew over London dropping their bombs. There were over 350 bombers that dropped 300 tonnes of bombs on the docks and streets of the East End of London.
The Germans carried out bombing raids over Britain in 1940 and 1941. London was bombed every day and night for 11 weeks. There was only one night when they didn’t come.

They also bombed many other cities in Britain.

During the Blitz two million houses were destroyed and 32,000 people were killed and many were injured.

People were very frightened and lots of children were sent away to the country to live so their parents knew they would be safe.
The people in big cities built air raid shelters to hide in when the bombs were coming down. Some hid in their cellars and many went to London Underground stations. It must have been very frightening to come out in the morning to see if your house was still there.
To stop the Germans seeing where the towns were in the dark everyone had to keep lights switched off. There were no street lights. This was called the blackout.

My printer has broken. It won't let me copy the pictures onto here.
